I'm Barry Fitzgerald - Research Scientist at Delft University of Technology, Speaker, Scientific Communicator and Author.
In February 2016, I self-published my popular science book the "Secrets of Superhero Science". In the book, I talk about the real science and current scientific research that you need to know in order to create the superpowers of the superheroes. Iron Man suits, invisibility cloaks and web slingers may be part of your future.

The Secrets of Superhero Science is coming to Enschede. As part of Twente Science Week I'm giving an interactive, fun and superhero-themed science talk about superheroes, superpowers and the possibilty of superpowers in the future. The talk will take place at Janninkshuis, Langestraat 41 in Enschede and starts at 18.30.
Scientists are closer than you might think to creating superpowers and in the talk you'll hear about some of the exciting scientific research that could produce superpowers in the future. You’ll learn about the possibility of genetically producing the X-Men, discover why Hawkeye’s eyesight is so advanced and learn about the science behind producing spider silk just like Spider-Man.
Are you ready to Unlock the Secrets of Superhero Science?
(The talk will be in English).
Here is the abstract for the talk from the Twente Science Week programme:
Hoe maak je spinnenwebben die net zo sterk zijn als die van Spiderman? Hoe kun je onzichtbaar worden, net als Susan Storm? Voormalig UT-onderzoeker en superheldenfanaat Barry Fitzgerald (36) zocht het uit en dat resulteerde in zijn boek Secrets of Superhero Science. De Ierse wetenschapper communiceert hiermee op een toegankelijke manier over wetenschap en vertelt zijn verhaal over de hele wereld.
